La hora de la verdad

Time for truth

I’ve been feeling a bit weird with the blog lately, perhaps you’ve noticed. I feel it’s because I need to say some things, pull them out. I warn you; today I’ll write a lot more than usual. As I told you before, my life is going through several changes and I feel as the ground is moving constantly, like an earthquake. It’s not that bad to make you wanna throw up, but enough to be a little anxious.

You know how much I love crocheting. It’s a great passion of mine, I can’t explain the feeling, it’s like meditation, total silence and absolute attention. It just makes me super happy, that’s why I started Caracol 1 year ago (Gosh, it’s been a year already!) I started in one of those craft fairs. Had no idea that I was going to start a brand or something like that, I didn’t even know if I was going to be in another craft fair again! I had to choose a name and have a logo to get in. One week before the fair and not thinking too much to be honest, I came up with Caracol (Snail). Partly because of pure intuition and partly because several years before I wanted to bind books and sell them with this name. (Believe it or not, the name occurred to me after a visit to San Crisóbal de las Casas in 2008, when I went to a Zapatista congress).

The thing is I started writing today because I read our dear Deb again, (please go visit; it’s a must for crafty entrepreneurs, Spanish speakers unfortunately) Deb and her wonderful articles have touched me in some sensible spots lately. I must confess I have A LOT of doubts right now.

I absolutely love crocheting and Caracol is a great adventure that excites me. However, I have and always have had many interests in my life. Maybe you already know I’m studying a minor in contemporary art. It’s focused on participation practices in art, which I love. There and also by myself, I read a lot, sometimes I wonder if too much. I read literature but most of the time I find myself reading philosophy, western and eastern. I love it, and maybe that’s why I went into yoga. Yoga is the way I experience the self purely, without the intellect. It's the best thing that has happened to me.

I also have a big hunch, a deep hope and almost a duty to think that other worlds are possible (quoting the Zapatistas again). I’m moved by social movements and the idea that we can change our realities together. That we can make worlds in side other worlds where we all feel listened and valued. Everything to all, say the Zapatistas too. Worlds were we can contribute and use our unlimited creative potential to solve our problems in community. I feel a profound commitment to these changes.

At the end, what I wanted to say is that (for 7 years now) I’m going through a constant vocational doubt. Every day I feel closer to finding a way to join all those things that make me move and feel passionate, but I still haven’t got there, not yet. I needed to tell this at loud for some reason. I truly hope that you continue to join me in this path. I’ll be here, writing, although I promise not to write as much as this time haha.

Have you ever gone through this kind of doubts? Felt unsure of what your true mission in life is? If so, how have you gone over it? How have you struggled your way into clarity?
Big hugs to you and If you reached this point, THANK YOU, thank you very much for reading it all!

Besos,
Kisses,

  2. Andrea, thanks for a great, honest and passionate post! Many times in my life I thought that I was doing exactly what I liked the most (for example, I write ads for an advertising company). Since I started my blog, almost a year ago, I felt very happy and said to myself: This is what I was meant to do with my life! But in the last few months I have been obsessed with illustration and I staring painting a little... so I think the journey to discover yourself is never ending, if you are a free spirit!

  4. Hello dear Andrea, i can very much relate to that. What helped me was that i went with whatever i was passionate about, and stopped thinking about it so much. i do not think that you have a specific purpose, i think you create your reality (and your purpose) as you go along, guided by your passion (just saw that Meeha Meeha wrote something similar :-) ).
Big hug to you and the very best of everything dear Andrea!
